Warren William Metzler was born to Paul W. Metzler and Ellen M. Zentner on July 20, 1937 in Braddock Hospital, Braddock, Pennsylvania. At the time his parents lived on Monongahela Avenue in Swissvale. After living a year in Braddock, PA his mother’s home town, they moved to Whitaker, across the Mon River near Kennywood Park. Warren attended public grade school in Whitaker and high school at St Thomas High School in Braddock, Pa,. He attended minor seminary at St. Gregory’s Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio and 6 years of major seminary St Vincent, in Latrobe, PA. He was ordained a priest on May 9, 1964 at St Paul’s Cathedral in Oakland, Pittsburgh, PA by Bishop John Wright. Father Metzler’s first priestly assignment was to Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Natrona Heights, PA, about 22 miles north of Pittsburgh on Rt. 28. In May of 1971, he was transferred to St Susanna’s Penn Hills, PA, near Universal and Plum Boro, PA. In November of 1976 he began ministry at St. Edward’s in Blawnox, PA, a small parish about 7 miles north of Pittsburgh, also on Rt. 28. On December 1, 1981, Father became pastor of St James parish in Wilkinsburg. He has served there for 22 years and expects that he will serve here until he retires from active ministry.
